Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that he would evaluate the impact of Trade Ministerial Regulation Number 16 of 2025 concerning Import Policies and Regulations after the regulation is implemented.
The Minister of Trade made this statement in response to complaints from domestic sugarcane farmers who requested a postponement of the implementation of the regulation, as they considered it would cause molasses stocks to pile up and not be absorbed by the market.
"The new Trade Minister's Regulation comes into effect today," said the Trade Minister when met.
"Just today. If we want to evaluate it, it's already in effect," he said again.
According to the Minister of Trade, the regulation will not impact domestic molasses producers, considering that the volume of molasses imports has continued to decline over the past five years, and the new regulation no longer requires recommendations.
"Starting today, let's see how things develop," he said.
Previously, the Indonesian Sugarcane Farmers Association (APTRI) pushed for accelerated payment of sugarcane yields, particularly the approximately 100,000 tons of farmers' sugar that had been piling up for two months and had not been optimally absorbed by the market.
