To cover the security gap, Tijuana needs at least 900 patrol cars and 4,000 police officers, said former Tijuana Public Security Secretary Julián Leyzaola Pérez, who clarified that the current force is insufficient to meet the needs.
In an interview, he explained that the Municipal Police units suffer from extreme wear and tear, as the vehicles are in operation 24 hours a day and must travel through areas where the terrain is less than optimal.
For this reason, he argued that it is necessary to double the number of patrol cars in operation, as well as the number of municipal police officers, so that the corporation is able to provide service efficiently and in a timely manner.
He asserted that if this increase in equipment and personnel is achieved, the city of Tijuana would be secure enough to move out of the top spots in crime.
