Tijuana, September 10.- Baja California's health minister, Alonso Pérez Rico, reported that they are waiting for the federal government to determine the date on which the shipment of Pfizer vaccines will be sent to immunize approximately 600,000 children between the ages of 12 and 17 in the state.
The doctor indicated that once the shipment's arrival is confirmed, the dates and locations where the minors will receive their first dose of the anti-Covid vaccine will be announced.
The state official reiterated that this sector "can only be vaccinated with Pfizer, because it is the only vaccine authorized for use in Mexico for this age group."
He also indicated that although the state has the capacity to immunize all 600,000 children in five days, the vaccination process will be slower, in order to identify situations such as consent forms and children who will not want to be vaccinated.
Regarding the state's vaccination plan, Pérez Rico said that Baja California has 13,554 second-dose vaccines, of which 6,600 are Pfizer, 4,462 are AstraZeneca, and 2,492 are Sinovac. He reiterated that today is the last day of the week for vaccinations, as no vaccination centers will be open on Saturday and Sunday.
On the other hand, he reported that Baja California has surpassed 80 percent of its population fully vaccinated, and a new goal is to reach 85 percent.
Pandemic Update in BC
In his daily report on the pandemic in the state, the head of Health reported a decrease in active COVID-19 cases; there are 1,114 in total, of which 493 are in Mexicali, 258 in Tijuana, 150 in Ensenada, 62 in San Quintín, 14 in Playas de Rosarito, 32 in Tecate, and 5 in San Felipe.
Currently, hospital occupancy in Baja California is 43.82 percent, with 247 beds available, 190 ventilators available, 154 patients hospitalized, and an effective reproduction rate of 0.93.
