WhatsApp launches AI feature to change message language style

Instant messaging app WhatsApp has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that allows users to rewrite, check, or adjust the tone of their messages.

this new feature, called Writing Help, utilizes Meta's Private Processing technology, which allows users to receive AI-based responses without Meta or WhatsApp reading the original message or any improvement suggestions. This means messages on the platform remain private even when users use this new feature.

With Writing Help, users can get AI-generated suggestions to rewrite their messages in a professional, humorous, supportive, or simply paraphrased style.

WhatsApp also showcased an example of the feature's use through a product image. In the example, the original message typed by the user read, "Please don't leave dirty socks on the sofa."

The AI feature then provided several humorous alternatives, including "Please don't turn the sofa into a sock graveyard," "Breaking news: Socks found lounging on the sofa. Please move them," and "Hey, sock ninja, the laundry basket is over there!"

Through this launch, WhatsApp seems to be hoping that people will use its in-app technology when composing messages, instead of turning to external apps like ChatGPT.

WhatsApp says users can access this new feature by tapping the new pencil icon that appears while composing a message in the app. Writing Help is already rolling out in English in select countries.
