Ensenada, March 8.- This Tuesday, service was suspended in 66 neighborhoods due to interconnection work on the direct intake of the suction pipe of the Aguas de Ensenada desalination plant. The neighborhoods will be resupplied until the completion of the first phase on March 16.
"These are highly specialized jobs performed under difficult operating conditions and low visibility, which is why each procedure requires specific time, personnel, and equipment," said Jaime Alcocer Tello, head of the Ensenada State Public Services Commission (CESPE).
The work includes cutting a 48-inch polyethylene pipe and removing soil; anchoring the new pipe in the connection area 200 meters beyond the sump; sinking the final section of the new 54-inch pipe to a depth of 8 meters; and installing a connecting reel between the existing pipeline and the new mechanical, airtight clamp connection between the pipes, to name a few.
The first phase of this project will culminate on March 16th. After that date, service will be provided through pipelines, giving users the opportunity to regularly supply their water needs and store water prior to the second phase of the project, which will begin on March 22nd.
Since January 2021, the direct intake of the 48-inch high-density polyethylene suction pipe had collapsed, reducing production volumes from 250 liters per second to 120 liters per second, affecting the supply to the population in that area.
It is estimated that upon completion of these works, the Aguas de Ensenada desalination plant will once again have the capacity for which it was designed.
