 The Indonesian national team lost 71-74 to Hong Kong in their opening match of Group B of Division B of the 2025 FIBA ​​U-16 Women's Basketball Asia Cup in Seremban, Malaysia in that match, Indonesia actually outperformed its opponents since the first quarter and even led 41-35 before halftime.

However, Hong Kong appeared more solid from the third quarter on. Indonesia struggled to overcome the pressure, only scoring six and 13 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

In terms of field goals (FG), in total, Indonesia (46 percent) is actually better than Hong Kong (41 percent).

In fact, Indonesia's three-point FG (38.1 percent) was much more accurate than Hong Kong's (19.05 percent), while both teams' two-point FGs were at 50 percent.

What made the difference in the match was Hong Kong's effectiveness in utilizing free throws (FT).

Indonesia's FT in that match was recorded at 38.46 percent, while Hong Kong was able to reach 51.85 percent.

In addition, Indonesia also made more errors (turnovers), namely 31 times, compared to Hong Kong, which only made 23 times.

Point guard Inez Angelina Welly became the Indonesian player with the most points in the match with 14 points, three rebounds , and three assists .

In the Hong Kong camp, small forward Valerie Lau was the most prominent with a collection of 20 points, nine rebounds and one assist .

Next, in the second match of Group B Division B, Sunday (14/9), Indonesia will face Tonga starting at 18.00 WIB.

Indonesia is in the group with Hong Kong, Tonga, and host Malaysia. To qualify directly for the semifinals, Indonesia must top the group.

If Indonesia finishes second or third, it must compete in the semifinal qualifying round. If it finishes last or fourth, it must compete in the seventh-place playoff.

The winning team from Division B of the 2025 FIBA ​​U-16 Women's Basketball Asia Cup will be eligible to advance to Division A in the next edition of the tournament.
