Maria: Badminton auditions are a place to measure the mental and fighting spirit of young athletes.

The talent scouting team for the 2025 PB Djarum Kudus General Auditions continues to monitor the competing participants, while the tournament stage is a crucial moment to assess their quality, especially their fighting spirit and competitive mentality, said Indonesian badminton legend Maria Kristin.

"As we've entered the tournament stage, the quality of each athlete is becoming more apparent. The desire to win brings out their fighting spirit, allowing for a better assessment of their technique, physique, and character," said Maria Kristin, a gold medalist at the 2007 SEA Games and a bronze medalist at the Beijing Olympics at the Djarum Jati Sports Hall in Kudus on Thursday.

According to him, the assessment goes beyond basic badminton techniques like racket grip, shot patterns, and footwork . The competitive mentality is also a key focus, such as how an athlete responds when trailing by a point.

"Some people immediately lose heart, while others persist in pursuing their goals. That's a plus," he said.

Maria revealed that there were already several prominent names in the women's division. However, the journey didn't end at the audition stage, as enthusiasm often waned after the selection process.

"That's why I always remind you, don't forget your initial motivation for joining the audition, which was to take advantage of the complete facilities at PB Djarum to achieve higher achievements," he said.
