The Riau Islands Regional Police Narcotics Research Directorate has uncovered the existence of a drug minilab where crystal methamphetamine is washed from poor quality to fresh in a hidden location in the Tanjungpiayu area, Batam City.
"We have just uncovered a minilab in Batam, with crime scenes in two locations: one in a room in the Baloi Permai area and the other in Tanjung Piayu. We have secured 5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and two suspects," said Riau Islands Police Chief Inspector General Asep Safrudin during a press conference at Riau Islands Police Headquarters in Batam City.
The Regional Police Chief said the perpetrators deliberately chose an isolated location far from the public's reach to produce low-quality crystal methamphetamine mixed with chemicals to make it new again.
The perpetrators with the initials VO and PST, both played a role in laundering the crystal methamphetamine, the entire production of which was financed by the suspect with the initials AR from Pekanbaru, Riau.
"Looking at the last case, there was a minilab, where the location was quite isolated, deep in the garden behind the bushes," he said.
