Steam removes "BlockBlasters" after crypto wallet hack

The US game distribution platform Steam has removed a game suspected of containing malware that had compromised the cryptocurrency wallets of hundreds of its players, causing a total loss of US$150,000.

The removed game is titled BlockBlasters as first reported by Bleeping Computer, quoted from The Verge, Tuesday.

One of the victims even suffered a significant loss of US$32,000 (around Rp. 532 million). He was a streamer who was raising funds for his cancer treatment.

In a post on X, malware tracker vx-underground revealed that the attackers targeted several streamers with a spearphishing campaign aimed at luring victims into promoting the game in exchange for compensation.

"Unfortunately, the Steam game is actually a crypto drainer disguised as a legitimate video game ," wrote vx-underground in his post on X.
