The head of the State Citizen Security Force could be from another entity.

Tijuana, March 4.- The leadership of the State Citizen Security Force will be composed of military personnel and civilians with experience in police forces, said the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Baja California, Gilberto Landeros Briceño, who did not rule out the possibility of the head being brought in from another entity.

"We're possibly analyzing two or three people, which I think could be the case, but I don't want to give you any details because we're fine-tuning those details," he said, without giving further details, explaining that everyone will undergo screening and trust tests.

"There's a range of positions. We've been looking for profiles, not military or civilian," Landeros Briceño clarified, adding that the heads of the State Citizen Security Force will be announced at a press conference in the coming weeks, three months after he took office.

"I'll try to have it (the presentation of state leaders) happen this month. I'm already 80 percent (rounded up) for appointments. That's why it took us so long, because there were people I even proposed by name, but I made that indication, unless they don't pass the trust exam," Landeros Briseño said.

He also said that the image of the State Citizen Security Force will be released in the coming weeks so that citizens are familiar with the uniforms and patrol vehicles and thus avoid confusion.

"We're doing very well. We already have the corresponding logos, the insignia, and everything is going well in that sense. We also want to present the purple squadron soon, so we have a lot of things already in progress."

This is the third time the name of the state police forces has been changed; during the administration of Jaime Bonilla Valdez, the State Investigation Guard (GESI) was created, which operated with the same personnel as the defunct State Preventive Police (PEP) during the administration of former Governor Francisco Vega de Lamadrid.

During the administration of Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, a legislative reform created the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) on January 1, 2022, which contemplates the restructuring of the state police force, under the name of the State Citizen Security Force, which began operations with 639 officers who were previously part of the GESI and PEP.
