The wealth of five Mexican magnates doubled during this six-year term.

The wealth of Mexico's five wealthiest men has grown an average of 226.6 percent during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who emphasized over the weekend that "not a single major businessman has failed" during his administration.

According to Bloomberg's lists, the combined wealth of Carlos Slim, Germán Larrea, Ricardo Salinas, Alejandro Baillères, Juan Beckmann Vidal, and their families totals $158.63 billion to date, about a fifth of the country's public debt value as of May 2024.

During López Obrador's administration, the wealth of Carlos Slim, president of América Móvil, increased 78.1 percent, from $52.9 billion to $94.2 billion; that of Germán Larrea, CEO of Grupo México, the country's largest mining company and concessionaire of the largest stretch of railroad in the country, soared 944.2 percent, from $3.6 billion to $37.8 billion; and that of Ricardo Salinas Pliego, president of Grupo Salinas, increased 28.7 percent, from $10.1 billion to $13 billion.

Grupo Bal's president, Alejandro Baillères, recently joined Bloomberg's list (since his family's net worth was previously counted based on that of his father, Alberto Baillères), with a fortune reaching $6.9 billion. Meanwhile, Juan Beckmann Vidal and his family, owners of Becle, the parent company of José Cuervo, increased their fortune by 82.2 percent, from $3.7 billion to $6.7 billion.
