Game company Electronic Arts (EA) announced a partnership with the creator of the artificial intelligence (AI)-based image creation tool Stable Diffusion, Stability AI, to develop a way to speed up the game creation process with AI without compromising quality.
"We call it a 'smarter brush.' We're giving creators the tools to express what they want," said EA Sports Head of Technical Art Steve Kestell, as quoted by Engadget on Friday.
In the initial stages, the collaboration between EA and Stability AI focused on developing technology to generate textures and in-game assets using AI.
EA is targeting the creation of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials through tools that can generate 2D textures with color accuracy and precise lighting across a variety of game environments.
Additionally, the two companies are also exploring the use of AI to create comprehensive 3D environment previews based on specific text commands, allowing designers to creatively direct the in-game content creation process.
