The Indonesian para-swimming team achieved a brilliant result by bringing home 11 medals from the 2025 Para Swimming World Series in Lima, Peru, on October 23-25.
Of the seven athletes sent along with three coaches, Indonesia successfully brought home four gold medals, four silver medals, and three bronze medals.
Indonesian para-swimming coach Agni Herarta Anindya said the achievement was a big surprise considering the intense competition at the World Series level.
"The Indonesian team's achievement was clearly beyond expectations, as winning a medal at the World Series is usually very difficult," Agni said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to Agni, one of the factors that contributed to Indonesia's success was the absence of a number of the world's top swimmers.
"The World Series in Peru is being held after the World Championship. The world champions, who typically score high points, have opted not to participate, and that gives us a better opportunity," he said.
Senior athlete Jendi Pangabean was the top medal contributor with two gold medals from the men's 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter butterfly, and one silver medal from the men's 100-meter butterfly.
