The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is currently rocked by a major scandal surrounding the naturalization process of seven foreign players. The case has resulted in the suspension of FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman and heavy sanctions from FIFA.
FAM Vice President Datuk S. Sivasundaram emphasized that the decision to suspend Noor Azman was taken jointly by all levels of FAM.
"The secretary-general is the head of the secretariat, so he has assumed responsibility. For the independent committee to conduct an investigation, he must step aside until the investigation is complete," Sivasundaram said at a press conference at Wisma FAM, as quoted by the New Straits Times on Friday.
"FAM will make the decision collectively. An independent committee will be formed from outside FAM," he added.
The case involves seven players who allegedly used invalid documents to obtain Malaysian citizenship.
