PT Elnusa Tbk, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi which is part of the Pertamina Upstream Subholding, launched the Ready to Move Waste Transport (SiGAS) program in Mundu Village, Indramayu Regency, West Java, Thursday (30/10).
Elnusa Corporate Secretary Rustam Aji said that this program aims to encourage community-based waste management while opening up circular economic opportunities for rural communities.
Rustam said that of the 8,822 families in Mundu Village, there is potential for waste utilization of up to 30 percent for plastic and 20 percent for coconut fiber.
"This figure opens up huge opportunities to create new business opportunities and improve people's welfare," he said.
During the event, held at the Mundu Village Hall, Elnusa also presented a garbage-carrying motorcycle to the village government as a symbol of support for environmental conservation efforts and improving the welfare of residents. This handover is part of the Independent Energy Village program initiated by Pertamina.
Mundu Village Head Akifudin welcomed the assistance, considering that his village had not previously had a garbage collection vehicle facility.
"Elnusa not only provides waste collection facilities, but also guides us in processing waste into products with economic value," he said.
The majority of Mundu Village residents work as farmers and broom makers. With limited waste management facilities, household waste often becomes a problem, impacting health and environmental aesthetics.
Through SiGAS, Elnusa encourages the public to view waste as a resource. Previously unused plastic and coconut fiber waste can now be processed into plant pots, brooms, and even recycled bags by local residents.
Elnusa hopes that, through SiGAS, the people of Mundu Village can begin their journey towards a greener, healthier, and more economically empowered village.
