The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office announced that Robert Preston Morris, the former spiritual mentor to US President Donald Trump, has pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a minor.
The District Attorney's Office stated: "Texas megachurch founder Robert Preston Morris pleaded guilty to five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child occurring in the 1980s. Under the plea agreement, Morris was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, with the first six months to be served in the Osage County Jail."
According to the District Attorney's Office, in December 1982, Morris, then 21, traveled to Hominy, Oklahoma, as an itinerant preacher, where he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl. Over the next four years, the preacher continued to sexually abuse the victim.
Axios reported that Trump appointed Morris to his Evangelical Faith Advisory Committee during his 2016 presidential campaign. He also appointed him as his spiritual mentor.
