The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has made a number of important updates to its Laws and Regulations, which were ratified at the BWF Council meeting on November 8, 2025.
On its official website, Thursday, this change impacts the implementation of continental championships, the qualification and ranking system, and the numbers in para-badminton.
One of the main changes is contained in General Competition Regulations 5.1 which now gives Continental Confederations (CCs) the flexibility to hold Junior Championships and Individual Championships at continental level simultaneously in one week.
Thus, junior tournaments can be held alongside senior championships for individual, men's team, women's team, and mixed team events.
For the World Championships, the BWF has added a reserve list mechanism to fill vacant spots after the draw is published (Section 5.2.1). This measure is intended to provide flexibility in the event of sudden player withdrawals.
In the World Rankings, BWF updated the points calculation in team tournaments for pairs with nominal and adjusted rankings (Section 5.3.2.1).
