Manchester United Academy Director Stephen Torpey, who will take up the position in August 2025, has emphasized that he will improve the quality of his club's academy to produce top players in the future.
"We have to absorb the historical values and identity of Manchester United, everything that this club has inherited, and then improve them as much as we can. We have to look at what can make us better and help the players develop further," Torpey said, as quoted on the Manchester United website.
The 44-year-old emphasized that at the start of his tenure, United's academy, located at the Carrington Training Complex in Greater Manchester, would strengthen its foundations. According to Torpey, this was a challenge that had to be met.
For this reason, the man who had a career as a striker at several small clubs ranging from Port Valley, Stalybridge Celtic to Fleedwood Town is determined to maintain the high standards he had set at the MU academy.
Torpey said there is one simple question that underpins his approach to running the academy: "How can we make these young players better?"
