Nova Arianto admitted that he has a noble goal after accepting PSSI's offer to promote him to coach the Indonesian U-20 national team from the Indonesian U-17 national team.
When officially appointed at a press conference at the GBK Arena, Jakarta, Thursday, Nova revealed his goal is to guide Indonesian footballers with good quality in the youth national team to the senior national team level.
"In my heart, I wonder why young Indonesian players in the U-17 and U-20 teams have had good careers but haven't made it to the senior team," Nova said.
He admitted that when he was appointed to coach the U-17 national team in early 2024, this was the mission he carried. "That's why when I was appointed to the U-17 team, I wanted to guide them all the way to the senior national team. There are indeed many things I need to improve, especially regarding mentality and discipline. That's what I'm doing at the U-17 level," said the coach, who led the U-17 team to compete in the 2025 U-17 World Cup.
"My hope is that by being appointed to the U-20 team, I can still guide them to the senior national team. There are many examples of young players who excel at a young age but don't make it to the senior national team," he said.
