Pediatrician Dr. Ian Suryadi Suteja, M.Med Sc, Sp.A stated that Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) can cause bronchiolitis and disrupt growth and development in children.
In a health discussion in Jakarta, Dr. Ian said that bronchiolitis is caused by the RSV virus, where the lungs become narrowed and the airways contract, putting people at risk of developing asthma.
"In young children, it can also cause asthma, because bronchiolitis, even if it recovers, can cause structural changes in the respiratory tract, especially in the lungs, putting them at risk of developing asthma later in life," he said.
