Russian Daniil Medvedev has been eliminated from the race to qualify for the ATP season-ending tournament for the first time since 2018, after losing in the quarter-finals of the Paris tournament to German Alexander Zverev.

The match, which took place early Saturday morning, ended after three sets with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 in favor of Zverev, which resulted in Medvedev losing the opportunity to enter the list of the top eight players of the season, which is the list that participates in the final tournament.

Medvedev participated continuously in the tournament from 2019 to 2025, and won its title in 2020, but this season he was unable to collect enough points to qualify.

The match witnessed a human moment between the two sides when Medvedev helped his opponent Zverev to his feet after he fell and suffered a thigh injury during the first set, before they resumed playing.

Despite a brief pause in play, the two players continued their confrontation. The match continued until the players reached a 1-1 tie in the sets after approximately three hours of intense competition, before Zverev decided the match.

Medvedev was recently fined $42,500 during the US Open for unsportsmanlike conduct and breaking his racket during a match.
