The Minister of Communication and Information Technology said IoT increases agricultural efficiency and productivity.

Digital Communications Minister Meutya Hafid said the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the agricultural sector can increase productivity and efficiency of fertilizer use, as well as maintain the quality of the soil ecosystem.

"After (farmers) used IoT or the Internet of Things and simple artificial intelligence, they were able to reduce fertilizer use by up to 50 percent, while also increasing productivity and lowering carbon emissions," said Meutya at the Digital Farmer Harvest event in Sragen Regency, Central Java, on Wednesday.

Meutya added that efficient fertilizer use allows farmers to save money while still producing high-quality harvests.

He emphasized that the use of new technologies such as IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) must reach the regions and provide benefits to the productivity of the government's priority sectors, including agriculture.

In addition to increasing efficiency and productivity, the use of IoT technology in agriculture also contributes to reducing carbon emissions and water pollution due to excessive fertilizer use.
