Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said he had received three directives from President Prabowo Subianto to improve athlete welfare.
"First, regarding the LPDP athlete scholarships, we will determine how they will be allocated," said Erick Thohir in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The second directive received by the Minister of Youth and Sports was to open up career opportunities for high-achieving athletes to serve in the public service sector.
Then, directives regarding the review of bonus schemes for SEA Games, Asian Games, and Olympic athletes, the preparation of which will be further consulted with the Ministry of Finance.
The Minister of Youth and Sports stated that he could not yet announce the figure or value of the bonus because it had to be consulted with the Ministry of Finance, which would be adjusted to the state budget plan.
According to him, the directive shows that the President makes the welfare of athletes a priority.
Furthermore, the Minister of Youth and Sports explained that the President also decided on a new legal umbrella that would form the basis for the government's focus on 21 sports branches leading up to the Olympics.
