The United States (US) and Canada national teams are the top seeds for the men's and women's categories respectively in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 AmeriCup 2025, which will be held in Mexico, November 27-30.
The FIBA 3x3 website announced Saturday that in the men's division, the US national team is the top seed as it seeks to defend its title.
The US team has dominated the event with three titles in the last four editions and is once again strengthened by the best player (MVP) Henry Caruso.
The national team is in Group A with Mexico and the Cayman Islands.
Second-seeded Puerto Rico leads Group B. They are looking to build on their impressive record after winning the 2023 tournament and narrowly defending last year's title. The group also features the Dominican Republic, as well as the winner of qualifier A, which is contested by Jamaica, Guyana, and Saint Lucia.
Canada, who won bronze in the 2024 edition, their first medal, are seeded third in Group C alongside Argentina and the winner of Qualifier B (Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the Bahamas). Group D features fourth-seeded Chile and Brazil, with an additional spot from Qualifier C (Venezuela, Haiti, Paraguay, and Ecuador).
Meanwhile, in the women's division, defending champions Canada open their Group A campaign against the Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic.
The biggest threat comes from the United States, which is the second seed even though it is in a different group.
On the other hand, the US national team was immediately tested by Brazil in Group B, while Jamaica tried to provide a surprise.
Group C features an exciting duel between third seed Puerto Rico and host Mexico, as well as one other team from the qualifying round.
Finally, Group D will see Chile and Argentina meet, with one additional qualifying slot.
