Alwi opened Indonesia's lead over Malaysia in the men's team final

  Indonesia opened the men's badminton team final at the 2025 SEA Games with a crucial victory after Alwi Farhan defeated Malaysia's Leong Jun Hao in two straight games 21-12, 21-19 at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Wednesday.

Alwi appeared confident from the first game and maintained his momentum despite pressure in the second. This victory gave Indonesia a 1-0 lead in the match in Pathum Thani.

"Alhamdulillah, I express my gratitude to God Almighty. I hope this victory can avenge my defeat yesterday. I want to show pride in representing Indonesia, and as a great nation, we must have an extraordinary mentality," said Alwi after the match.

He said finals are always tight and offer equal opportunities for both teams. Therefore, he felt the need to take responsibility for securing a point for the Garuda Squad.

"It was a 50-50 situation. I took responsibility and, thank God, I was able to give my best. Hopefully, this will inspire my teammates to work hard and win a gold medal."

Alwi revealed that coach Indra Wijaya's instructions were key when he was behind.

"Koh Indra said that what was prepared in practice must come out today. Practice makes perfect ."

He also dedicated this victory to his entire supporting team. "This is the result of my hard work, the hard work of my coach, my psychologist, and my parents who have always been there for me. I hope this victory will inspire others to win," he said.
