Apple has filed an appeal with the UK Court of Appeal to overturn a £1.5 billion (approximately Rp33.98 trillion) antitrust ruling related to alleged excessive fees charged to millions of App Store users in the UK.
As reported by Macrumors on Tuesday, the application was filed after the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal ( CAT) ruled last October that Apple abused its dominant position by charging commissions of up to 30 percent on transactions in the App Store during the period 2015 to 2024.
In its ruling, the CAT stated that Apple's control over the distribution of apps on iPhones and iPads enabled the company to charge higher commissions than would be fair in a competitive market, resulting in consumer losses estimated at £1.5 billion.
The lawsuit was filed as a collective action representing around 36 million consumers in the UK.
