The Liquid Glass design, which Apple introduced with iOS 26 last September after announcing it at WWDC 2025, has received mixed reactions. The design replaces traditional flat icons with dynamic, transparent icons that mimic a material that reflects and breaks its surroundings, distorting the background to resemble the effect of glass in real time.
Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, described the design as "brilliant," but many users expressed dissatisfaction, saying the design was difficult to use and caused visual strain. Some even described the app icons as slanted and making them feel dizzy.
iPhone users expressed their delight at being able to adjust the transparency of the lock screen after installing iOS 26.2, with one writing: "This is the first thing I did after the update - I adjusted the clock's transparency."
The iOS 26.2 update also comes with additional features, including alarms for the Reminders app, offline lyrics in Apple Music, sports score logos, AI-generated chapters in the Podcasts app, an extra layer of security when using AirDrop, bug fixes, and security updates.
Apple provides the update automatically if automatic updates are enabled, or it can be installed manually via the Settings app. The company has also released it for its other devices, including Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro.
