Former NBA basketball player and Clemson University legend Elden Campbell has died at the age of 57.
The NBA website, Thursday, stated that Campbell was known as a player with a height of 2.11 meters with a calm and efficient game while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and the university.
"I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Elden Campbell's passing," said former Clemson coach Cliff Ellis, who credited Campbell with being a key figure in the team's success in the 1989-1990 season.
He became Clemson's all-time leading scorer with 1,880 points over four seasons with the school from 1986 to 1990. In his final season, Campbell played a key role in leading Clemson to its only ACC regular-season championship.
After completing his collegiate career, Campbell was selected 27th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1990 NBA Draft. He served as a backup in Magic Johnson's final season, before helping the Lakers reach the 1991 NBA Finals.
He then developed into a key pillar for the Lakers in a transitional period, before the Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant eras.
