Intel is expected to supply chips for the iPhone in 2028

American semiconductor company Intel is expected to supply some of the chips for iPhone devices in the next few years.

As reported by Macrumors on Sunday, in the latest research note from investment firm GF Securities, analyst Jeff Pu stated that his party predicts Intel will reach an agreement with Apple to supply chips for some iPhone models outside the Pro variant starting in 2028.

Previously, it was rumored that Intel would supply chips for Mac and iPad devices. More recently, the collaboration between Intel and Apple has the potential to expand to include the iPhone.

Jeff stated that the iPhone chip is planned to be manufactured using Intel's 14A manufacturing technology. While he didn't elaborate on the plan, based on the revealed schedule, Intel could potentially begin producing the Apple A22 chip, which will likely be used in devices like the iPhone 20 and iPhone 20e, within the next three years.

However, there's no indication yet that Intel will be involved in the iPhone chip design process. Intel's role is expected to be limited to the fabrication stage, while Apple retains full control over processor design.

Under the scheme, Intel will become an additional manufacturing partner alongside TSMC, which has been Apple's main chip supplier.
