I.League Operations Director Asep Saputra welcomed the possibility of clubs in the 2025/2026 BRI Super League bringing in naturalized players who are regulars of the Indonesian national team.
The Super League currently boasts at least four naturalized players who regularly play for the Garuda team. These four players are Rafael Struick at Dewa United Banten, Thom Haye and Eliano Reijnders at Persib Bandung, and Jordi Amat at Persija Jakarta.
That number could possibly increase in the second round after Persib was rumored to be bringing in Joey Pelupessy, a midfielder who plays for Lommel SK in the second tier of the Belgian League.
"The I.League's response is that the registration period will open on January 10th. Well, judging by the individual clubs, if that's true, the competition's value will certainly increase," Asep said when met by media crews at the I.League Office located at Menara Mandiri II, Jakarta, on Monday.
Pelupessy, 32, has made 16 appearances for Lommel, scoring three goals since joining in January this year from FC Groningen, where he spent two and a half seasons.
