Madrid continues to draw, Alonso remains calm because the season is still long
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso remains calm amid his team's run of three consecutive draws in La Liga, and stressed that Los Blancos are still in the race because the season is still long and the opportunity for a comeback remains open.

"In the second half, we improved, we had more chances. We weren't clinical, but the season is very long and we have to keep going," Alonso said after Real Madrid's 1-1 draw against Girona, as quoted by ESPN.

Madrid fell behind to Azzedine Ounahi's 45th-minute goal, but Kylian Mbappé equalized from the penalty spot. However, their efforts to secure a win proved fruitless, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw at Girona.

This result leaves Madrid one point behind Barcelona, who currently lead the standings. Barcelona still have a match to play against Atletico Madrid, which will be played early Wednesday morning WIB.

A string of draws against Rayo Vallecano, Elche, and Girona, coupled with a Champions League defeat to Liverpool, raised public doubts about Alonso's project, despite Madrid's impressive performance, winning 10 of their first 11 league matches.

Alonso emphasized that the dynamics of the season are indeed changing.

The Madrid coach also stated that he had no criticism of his players. "I liked the players' reaction. It wasn't enough to win, but we came close," he said.

Madrid will return to action on Thursday morning WIB against Athletic Bilbao, and Alonso described the match as an opportunity to return to winning ways. "We have a chance  in Bilbao, we'll see," he said.
