Indonesian U-22 national team coach Indra Sjafri revealed that Marselino Ferdinan has canceled his participation in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand because the AS Trencin (Slovakia) player suffered a hamstring injury.
As a replacement, Indra has called up Persik Kediri player Rifqi Ray Farandi. Rifqi himself will fly to Thailand on Wednesday to join the rest of the squad, which has been there since last Friday.
"We have communicated with AS Trencin coach that Marselino Ferdinan cannot be released by his club due to a hamstring injury. Therefore, we have prepared a replacement, namely Rifqi Ray Farandi from Persik Kediri, who flew to Thailand today to join him," said Indra in an official statement on Wednesday.
The PSSI (Indonesian Football Association) wrote that Marselino was very enthusiastic and eager to play with the Young Garuda in the SEA Games. However, his injury prevented him from joining Ivar Jenner and his teammates in Thailand.
Marselino himself is one of four players playing abroad, who made Indra's final squad for the SEA Games.
Along with the former Persebaya Surabaya player, three names of players who play abroad in this squad are Ivar Jenner (FC Utrecht), Dion Marxk (TOP Oss), and Mauro Zijlstra (FC Volendam), with all three players playing in the Dutch football competition.
