Norris confirms he will wear number 1 next season

McLaren driver Lando Norris, who will be world champion in the 2025 season, confirmed that he will use the number 1 in Formula 1 next season.

"It's a tradition, it's there for a reason. Tradition number one is there because you can go and try to become world champion and you can work hard to try and get it," Lando Norris was quoted as saying by Formula 1.

The British racer admitted that he would be very proud to wear the number 1, which has become a Formula 1 tradition, that this sacred number is only worn by racers who have world champion status.

"All of us as a team who have played a role in McLaren or my car will wear it with pride. All my mechanics, my engineers, everyone who is part of McLaren will have recognition as well," said Norris.

"So, it's not just for me, it's for them too. It's a source of pride for them, knowing that they've worked hard and put in the effort so they can say 'we're number one,'" he added.

Previously, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen wore number 1 for the past four seasons due to his status as world champion for four consecutive seasons.

In this tradition that has existed since 2014, only Lewis Hamilton has world champion status but has refused to wear number 1 and still chooses to use the sacred number 44.
