Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior revealed that the app has been linked to 1,706 fraud cases since last year, with a total value of approximately NT$248 million (equivalent to US$9.7 million).
Bloomberg quoted the ministry as saying that the victims have no way to recover their money or obtain compensation because the company operating the application is located outside of Taiwan.
Earlier this year, Taiwan’s National Security Bureau warned citizens against using Chinese mobile apps, citing potential security vulnerabilities.
This warning came after an examination of five popular Chinese apps, including TikTok, Red Note, Weibo, WeChat, and Baidu Cloud, where the examinations revealed serious violations of user privacy and communications security according to multiple indicators.
