Telkomsel prepares SIM card registration service using biometric data
Telecommunications company Telkomsel is preparing a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration service using biometric data in accordance with government regulations that will be implemented starting January 2026.

In accordance with regulatory mandates, Telkomsel's VP of Corporate Communications & Social Responsibility, Abdullah Fahmi, stated that starting January 2026, customers will be able to experience SIM card registration using biometric data at Telkomsel outlets.

"Initially, the biometric registration process will be carried out at Telkomsel GraPARI, so customers will receive direct assistance from officers," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"Telkomsel has prepared a user journey for SIM card registration using a simple and convenient biometric method on various Telkomsel channels to provide convenience and comfort for customers," he added.

SIM card registration using biometric data can later be done independently, without having to come to a Telkomsel GraPARI.

The company is initially providing SIM card registration services at outlets to introduce the implementation of the new registration system and help service users adapt.

In order to socialize the implementation of the new SIM card registration method, Telkomsel will also conduct internal and external communications, including with company partners, after the implementing regulations and technical guidelines are issued.

Abdullah stated that the company prioritizes customer data protection in implementing new regulations regarding SIM card registration.

"Customer data security is Telkomsel's top priority. All processes and systems used in biometric registration are designed in accordance with regulations, governance, and telecommunications industry best practices," he said.

He said, Telkomsel has obtained ISO 27001 certificates for Information Security Management Systems and ISO 27701 for Personal Data Protection Management Systems.

"In addition, the biometric technology used complies with regulatory technical requirements, including the implementation of liveness detection , so the system can ensure the authenticity of customer identities and minimize the risk of data falsification or misuse," he said.
