The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has highlighted two challenges currently facing the national media industry: maintaining journalistic quality amidst rapid technological developments and increasing public trust in the media.
Acting Director of the Media Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Farida Dewi Maharani, said the government understands the pressures placed on the media industry by the rapid development of technology.
"Technological development is much faster than we anticipated. This media metamorphosis is ongoing," said Farida during a discussion titled "Mass Media Kaleidoscope 2025" at the Press Council Building in North Jakarta on Tuesday.
Farida highlighted two key issues that require attention. First, journalistic quality, which is seen as increasingly being eroded by technological pressures and changing audience behavior.
"Technological advancements inevitably erode the quality of journalism. Media outlets are ultimately adapting to where their audiences are, and that becomes homework," said Farida.
