The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has officially appointed Yudai Yamamoto as the first foreign referee with a full-time contract in Indonesia. He will officiate matches in local competitions, particularly the 2025/2026 BRI Super League, with a 1.5-season contract starting in January next year.
This announcement was made at a press conference at Menara Mandiri II, Jakarta, Monday, which was attended by I.League Operations Director Asep Saputra, PSSI Referee Committee Chairman Yoshimi Ogawa, PT LIB General Manager Takeyuki Oya, and Yudai.
"In this context, Mr. Erick and I welcome this breakthrough effort by PSSI," said Asep in a press conference titled "PSSI Full-time Referee for I.League."
Yudai has a distinguished track record in the world of Asian refereeing, especially in Japanese football, having officiated 485 matches in second-tier competitions, cup matches, and first-tier competitions.
He is also quite familiar with the competitive atmosphere in Indonesia after he has led six matches in the Super League, five of which took place in August, starting with Borneo FC against Bhayangkara Presisi Lampung FC, Arema FC against PSBS Biak, Semen Padang against Dewa United Banten FC, Persijap Jepara against Persib Bandung, and Persebaya Surabaya against Bali United.
