Alwi Farhan reached the semifinals of the Indonesia Masters in a story-filled match.
Alwi Farhan secured his place in the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026 through a match full of dynamics, ranging from his physical condition which has not yet fully recovered, managing emotions on the court, to the role of coach Indra Wijaya and the atmosphere of the Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday.

The 2023 World Junior Champion completed his revenge against Japan's Yushi Tanaka with a straight-game victory of 22-20, 21-16. This result brings Alwi one step closer to his first title in front of his home crowd.

"Thank God, even though I wasn't 100 percent, I tried to make the most of what I had. The support from the Istora crowd was really helpful, especially when I fell behind early on. The atmosphere kept me going," said Alwi after the match.

The quarterfinal match was tight from the start. Tanaka immediately took the initiative and quickly took a 5-1 to 7-3 lead. However, Alwi, playing aggressively, managed to catch up, scoring five consecutive points to turn the game around to take an 8-7 lead.

The duel then continued until the score was 10-10 before Alwi closed the first game interval with a narrow lead.

After the break, the match became more tense. Tanaka had time to gain momentum and recorded game points first when leading 20-17. Alwi remained calm under the pressure, equalized, then turned around to take the first game after Tanaka hit two shots wide and one ball was deemed to have gone in by the linesman.
