Chad-Sudan: the border under tension after a deadly attack by the FSR

Chad announced on Friday the death of seven of its soldiers during a clash on the Sudanese border, blaming the attack on the Rapid Support Forces (FSR), the paramilitary group at war with the Sudanese army since April 2023.

This incident occurs in a context of growing tensions between the two countries, already marked by repeated violence. At a press conference, Chadian government spokesperson Gassim Cherif confirmed that a group of armed fighters from Sudan had entered Chadian territory on Thursday. Chadian forces, after ordering the intruders to leave the country, were forced to engage in combat. "We cannot tolerate our defense and security forces being drawn into this conflict, nor Chadians dying", he said, calling the incident a "final warning" to the warring parties.

The clash took place near the border town of Tiné, an area already affected by similar violence. On December 26, 2025, two Chadian soldiers were killed in a drone attack attributed to the FSR.
