China and Indonesia promote cooperation in the low-carbon palm oil industry
Indonesia and China continue to strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainable development, including through the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN) and the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences (CSES) in developing a low-emission palm oil industry.

This partnership aligns with the government's efforts to transform the national palm oil industry to align with the green development agenda and emissions reduction targets.

"One of the key aspects of this partnership is the development and implementation of innovative low-emission technologies, or what we call PaMER (Low Emission Palm Oil Mill)," said Teni Widuriyanti, Secretary of the Ministry of National Development Planning, as quoted by Xinhua on Thursday.

This technology not only produces highly nutritious edible oil and other environmentally friendly products, but also has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by 79.19 percent compared to conventional technology.

Thus, the implementation of PaMER technology is expected to increase the competitiveness of the national palm oil industry while opening up opportunities for financing innovative development through carbon trading mechanisms.

In addition to technology development, this partnership also includes a joint study to develop a comprehensive and applicable carbon trading framework for the palm oil sector. The two institutions will collaborate on developing a methodology for calculating carbon emissions.

This collaboration will also encourage strengthening the capacity and welfare of oil palm farmers through the formation of farmer cooperatives, as well as training and knowledge exchange. This way, farmers can be directly involved in carbon trading mechanisms and obtain sustainable economic benefits.
