Dr. Vyacheslav Korenkov, an ophthalmologist, explained that using non-prescription lubricating eye drops can lead to dry eye syndrome

According to him, an ophthalmologist should be consulted before using any drops of this type.

He says: "The visual system is a very sensitive and complex system, as it consists of blood vessels and nerve tissue. Therefore, even the use of seemingly simple lubricating drops may lead to a malfunction in its functions, because the entry of excess fluid into the eye makes it feel as if there is an excess of tears, thus slowing down the natural process of their production."

The doctor points out that even if the eye's secretory system, which is responsible for producing tears, is functioning properly, the drops may inhibit the tear system, which may cause dry eye syndrome over time.
