Indonesian men's doubles badminton players Fajar Alfian and Moh. Shohibul Fikri hope to meet compatriots Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the round of 16 of the 2026 Indonesia Masters.
Fajar/Fikri had already advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Taiwanese pair Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh in two straight games 21-16 and 21-10 in the round of 32 which took place at Istora, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
"Hopefully, we'll face Bagas and Leo. Hopefully, Leo and Bagas will also win today's match," Fajar said in a press conference after the match.
Leo/Bagas will still play in the round of 32 against Taiwanese pair Huang Jul-Hsuah/He Zhi-Wei.
Fajar revealed that meeting Leo/Bagas certainly had its pluses and minuses.
"Yes, there's definitely an advantage and a disadvantage. The disadvantage is definitely the elimination of one of the teams if they face their own teammate. But the advantage is that a representative will make it to the top eight, that's for sure," said Fajar.
The 30-year-old badminton player is ambitious to win the BWF Super 500 tournament again, after last winning the title in 2022 when he partnered with Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
Now Fajar, who is paired with Fikri, wants to repeat that sweet moment at Istora after the new couple was able to perform so impressively in the 2025 calendar year.
