Persija Jakarta coach Mauricio Souza said the reason his club recruited Shayne Pattynama was because the Indonesian national team player can play in several positions.Shayne's natural position is left-back, but he can also play as a right-back, center-back, defensive midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder, left midfielder, and left winger.
"Pattynama is with us today. I've spoken briefly with him. But I know from the other players that he can help us a lot in this league," Mauricio said in a press conference following Persija's 2-0 victory over Madura United at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on Friday.
"He can play in defensive midfield or right-back. I've spoken to him, and I'm happy with his motivation. I'm delighted he's joined us."
The 27-year-old left-back was announced as a new Macan Kemayoran player on Friday afternoon, before watching his new teammates play against Madura United.
Shayne was brought in from Buriram United, on a 2.5-year contract after his new club recruited right-back Fajar Fathurrahman, striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie, and center-back Paulo Ricardo.
Now Persija has three left-backs, after Dony Tri Pamungkas and Alan Cardoso.
