"At that time, we managed to secure them with the help of local residents and the victim as well, so we managed to secure them, the two perpetrators, at the Duren Sawit Police," said Duren Sawit Police Chief, Commissioner Sutikno in a press conference at the Duren Sawit Police Headquarters, East Jakarta, Friday.

The two perpetrators who were arrested had the initials MN (27) and M (23). Both were strongly suspected of committing theft by taking advantage of the vehicle owner's negligence.

The theft case occurred on Thursday (8/1) at around 08.30 WIB on Jalan Robusta, RT 05/RW 11, Pondok Kopi Subdistrict, East Jakarta.

However, MN and M were later arrested shortly after they committed the crime thanks to a quick report from the victim and local residents.

The modus operandi carried out by the perpetrators was by walking along Jalan Robusta.

"When they passed in front of a minimarket, they saw a Yamaha NMAX motorbike parked with the key still hanging," said Sutikno.

Seeing this opportunity, the two perpetrators then intended to take the motorbike.

One of the perpetrators tried to start the vehicle, but he was caught by the victim and local residents.

"When the engine was about to be started, the victim or a resident saw it and immediately reported the incident to us," explained Sutikno.

Duren Sawit Police officers, who received the report, immediately went to the crime scene (TKP). Upon arrival, police found two men suspected of being the perpetrators of the motorcycle theft.

"Thanks to the help of local residents and the victim, we managed to secure the two perpetrators at the location and immediately took them to the Duren Sawit Police for further questioning," said Sutikno.

Police seized evidence from the perpetrator, including the victim's motorcycle key. However, the motorcycle was not taken away because the perpetrator was caught first.

In this case, the two perpetrators were charged with Article 476 of the new Criminal Code (KUHP), regarding the crime of aggravated theft.

"We need to emphasize that the new Criminal Code is now in effect. The applicable article is Article 476 of the Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of over five years in prison," Sutikno emphasized.
