Regional Police Chief: 94 people died as a result of KKB violence
Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin said 94 people were reported to have died as a result of violence perpetrated by armed criminal groups (KKB) throughout 2025.

This number was revealed from 104 cases that occurred in the jurisdiction of the Papua Regional Police, spread across 21 police stations and police stations in three provinces.

"The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) remains a security threat in Papua, making residents fearful," the Regional Police Chief told reporters in Jayapura on Wednesday.

He said the 94 people who died as a result of the violence carried out by the KKB consisted of nine TNI members, six Polri members, 64 civilians, and 15 KKB members.

In addition, 120 people were recorded as injured, including 43 members of the TNI and Polri, 64 civilians, and five members of the KKB.

To address the disturbances perpetrated by the KKB, Patrige said, his party is encouraging regional governments, the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Regional Government Agencies (SKPD), community and religious leaders to take the front line.

"All parties are expected to play an active role in supporting the humanist approach taken by the Indonesian National Police, in this case the Papua Regional Police. The involvement of the regional government, the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), and relevant figures is expected to create a safer and more conducive situation," said Patrige.

The Regional Police Chief added that currently his team is taking a more humanistic approach, which is expected to be able to address various issues that have been triggering security disturbances.

"With a humanist approach, it is hoped that a sense of security and conduciveness can be created in Papua," said the Regional Police Chief.
