Severe stomach pain that recurs or is accompanied by nausea could indicate a serious health problem that requires medical attention, not just a temporary digestive problem.
As quoted in the Hindustan Times broadcast anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist Kunal Sood said that sharp and stabbing pain in the stomach after eating sometimes occurs due to gallstones.
"Gallstones are solid lumps that form in the gallbladder when bile becomes too concentrated, usually with cholesterol or pigment," he said.
He said that gallstones can cause severe pain if they block the bile duct.
"This blockage causes biliary colic, which is a sharp, severe pain often felt in the upper right abdomen or upper back, usually after eating very fatty foods," he explains.
"This may be accompanied by nausea or vomiting. And once it starts, the pain can last for hours," he added.
