Two Indonesian SL3-SU5 mixed doubles teams secured tickets to the 2025 ASEAN Para Games (APG) badminton final after defeating two Thai teams in the semifinals at the SPADT Convention Center, Thailand, on Friday.
The Indonesian team in Group A, strengthened by the pair Leani Ratri Oktila/Himkat Ramdani, advanced to the final round after defeating the host pair Darunee Henpriawan/Nattaphon Thaweesap 21-10, 21-11.
Oktila/Ramdani progressed smoothly in the preliminary round in the group by defeating the representatives of the Philippines with a landslide score of 21-8, 21-1 and overcoming the representatives of Thailand Darunee Henpraiwan/Nattaphon Thaweesap 17-21, 21-14, 21-13.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian pair competing in Group B Khalimatus Sadiyah/Fredy Setiawan also secured tickets to the final round by beating Thailand B pair Chanida Srinavakul/Siripong Teamaprom 17-21, 22-20, 21-6.
In the preliminary round, Sadiyah/Setiawan also silenced Thailand's representatives Chanida/Siripong 21-8, 21-10 and the Philippines' representatives 21-4, 21-8.
By securing two tickets to the final round, the para-badminton team has opened up the opportunity to win their first gold medal in the para-badminton event for the Indonesian contingent at the 2025 Asian Games.
As of Friday (23/1) at 14.30 WIB, the number of gold medals collected by the Indonesian contingent was 55. Dozens of medals were presented by athletes from the boccia, athletics, cycling, fencing, judo, weightlifting, swimming, table tennis, shooting, and tenpin bowling branches.
The medal haul places the Red and White Contingent in second place in the 2025 APG standings, behind Thailand with 94 gold medals, and maintains a gap over Malaysia in third place with 26 gold medals.
