Indonesian table tennis star Yayang Gunaya fulfilled his promise to his wife to bring home a medal by winning gold in the men's singles final in the TT4 (wheelchair) class at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.The man from Garut, West Java, managed to defeat the host representative Wanchai Chaiwut in three straight games 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 13-11) at Korat Hall, Central Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima, Friday.
"Thank God, I'm grateful because my family and wife only wanted me to bring home a medal, and the result was gold," Yayang said cheerfully to ANTARA after the match.
He admitted that he prayed a lot the night before the match to strengthen his heart to face the final round.
Even though he has participated in the ASEAN Para Games three times, he never fails to carry out this habit every time he faces a match, especially a crucial match.
