Athlete Syafa Muhammad Afrizal won a bronze medal in the men's singles BC1 para boccia event at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games after defeating Myanmar's Htike Min Min in the final at His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium, Thailand, on Friday.
Afrizal silenced Min Min with a convincing 9-0 score to end the fight in third place.
The 22-year-old athlete started her Group A qualifying campaign with a brilliant result when she defeated Myanmar's Hitke Min Min with a convincing 12-0 score.
In the preliminary round match, Afrizal emphasized his dominance by winning 14-0 over the Philippines' representative Villarova John Loyd.
Afrizal secured his place in the semifinals after defeating host Thailand's Sinthon Decha 6-1.
However, Afrizal's efforts to win a gold medal were halted when he lost to Singaporean Tae Wei Qiang Jovin in the semifinals.
He returned to compete for third place and managed to beat Min Min, whom he had defeated in the preliminary round.
With that result, Afrizal had to be satisfied with a bronze medal to strengthen the position of the Indonesian contingent which is in second place in the provisional standings of the 2025 ASEAN Para Games.
As of Friday (January 23) at 10:30 a.m. WIB, the Indonesian contingent had collected 111 medals, consisting of 42 gold, 39 silver, and 30 bronze. Indonesia's position is below Thailand, which leads the standings with 70 gold, 62 silver, and 53 bronze medals.
Indonesia still maintains a distance from Malaysia in third place with 18 gold, 21 silver, and 32 bronze medals.
