Clinical Psychologist Ratriana Naila Syafira, M.Psi., a graduate of the University of Indonesia, explained that psychological maturity is the reason children must be old enough when accessing social media.
"Children are not yet sufficiently mature in several areas, such as the ability to filter information, regulate emotions, and deal with social pressure on social media," Ratriana said when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.
The internet is a space with very free access, increasing the risk of children being exposed to various content that is inappropriate for their age. Children who are not yet psychologically mature are at risk of developing confusion or anxiety when exposed to diverse content online.
